Marrisa Johnson, Lesson 3, 29/09/15-
Advert proposal including REECE.
Today we started of the lesson with looking at adverts and answering the bullet points on a worksheet.
We looked at 3 adverts; Cadbury's, Lynx and Tango.
We evaluated each of them and tried to look for inspiration for the advert our group is going to create. We then researched some more adverts and tried to look for further inspiration for what the advert we are producing about the product we are trying to sell.
I then brainstormed some notes about what is needed in the advert for example, no formal dialogue as we are trying to show the product and not tell about the product and that we have to keep it simple.
I then filled out a sheet that explains about our 15-30 second video and it explains everything needed to know about the advert and what is going to be happening. I then went out and looked at location and filled in a sheet that will be below. Then Marissa introduced story boards for our advert and I started to creat a rough idea of what is going of in every shot.
Write up of advert proposal on word-
The image being used for the location of where the advert is being filmed.

This is for my freak and unique project for college that will be updated every time I have a lesson during the week.

Faye Jackson, Lesson 3, 28/09/15-
Introduction to video production groups.
Today we have been put into our filming and production groups.
We have discussed together who we are, what our key skills are, what props we could bring to the video and what key idea's we want to be involving in the process of the advert making.
In my group Sherry was main actor in this advert, Nathan taking the shots and directing and I was involved with acting and some parts of directing the advert.
Me and Sherry then looked on you tube to research, for some scary/ freaky adverts that we could get ideas from and the links are below.
4 Freaky Advert links-
Snickers Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgSv1SKCteQ

The freaky thing about this advert would be that 2 people are dressed in a costume and are tormenting a woman in a local supermarket and the person dressed up is aiming to scare her into buying some snickers by throwing snickers products into her trolley. At first i thought it was one person dressed up but towards the end the woman gets freaked out and the second person reveals themselves and says ' I think we got her'
Giff Gaff Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XptM1LCX7r4

The freaky thing about this advert is that it starts off as a scared woman thinking she is being chased by a man that looks odd and is carrying a item in his hand that you could presume as a hurtful weapon and she assumes he is chasing her with it but as he gets closer he turns out to be getting chased by a clown and that he is actually carrying a plant. Then as the clown ran onto shot he then was getting chased by another character that is meant to be scary, and the same routine follows on. At the end they then use a phrase that grabs the attention ' If you're scared, you're not the boss' Which caught my attention. This advert was meant to be aimed at horror based and then turned into comedy to grab the attention of viewers to get them intrigued in what the advert is about.
Phones 4 u Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2oL_gXECtg

The freaky thing about this advert is that a woman is walking alone and the shot would cut of for a millisecond and then the creepy looking girl would appear and disappear again within a second. It would then carry on and the girl would keep appearing. The woman then gets into her car and the girl the appears in her car holding a phone that the advert is aiming to sell or what the advert is based on.
Mcdonalds Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Xgi63j-FA
This advert started off with the eefect of using a creepy abandoned looking house that was desserted on its own. The atmosphere was also dark making the effect more creepy. It then went onto a woman stood in a bathroom and seeing the woman standing behind her. She then runs off into a bedroom i presume and shes then there again. They both then look at an advert for mcdonalds and become interested in it.
Me and Sherry then brainstormed some ideas for what our advert is going to be based on and ideas around the advert making.
We decided that our product is going to be about Coca cola/ A Drink product.
We chosen that our main location to film will be involving a staircase.
We decided that the rough roles of the making of the advert will be ;
Sherry- Filmer/ Director / Will be involved on the camera if needed
Me- Editing/ Will be involved on the camera if needed
Nathan- Main actor
We decided we could use face paint, costumes and a mask for our freaky advert.
Our main idea for the advert would be it would start of with Nathan looking freaky and acting odd and then as the advert goes on, Me or Sherry is going to jump in and hand him the coca- cola and then he will transform back to his normal self. We could then use a phrase/voiceover saying a motto for example ' share a coke with a friend in need' something like that.
We did think about an actor drinking a drink and then Nathan spots it and chases one of us around the staircase, but this idea didnt really end up making much sense. So we brainstormed another and got our inspiration of the Snickers advert.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsQBrbJ9T3M

We decided on setting the genre of the advert to freaky and comedy to try and grab the audiences attention more and get them to feel involved with their humor whilst watching the advert.

Marrisa Johnson, Lesson 2, 22/09/15.
Filming & Editing.
Today we recapped on different camera shots, angles, white balance and rule of 3rd.
We recapped over how to set up a tripod the right way and then dismantle it the right way.
We then looked at different shot types such as, Jib, Panning, Tilting and Steady cam.
We then went out and filmed some of the clips I listed above and they turned out good. We had to do a shot that required me walking past the camera and Emma following where i walked by moving the camera, from right to left, left to right. We then had to do a head to toe shot where Emma had to stand still whilst i slowly looked up and down on her whilst she was stood and i kept to the rule of 3rd and kept the shot in the right frame. We then had to record where the camera was still but i had to walk past the camera which was referred to movement within a shot. After this we then learnt more about the Jib shot by watching a tutorial on you tube and we had an attempt on doing this. We then looked at the editing software and learnt a simple trick which was cutting the video down to what clip we wanted and then moving it onto the video. For this i had to edit the original clip in the top left corner which whilst i was editing it, I could preview it on the top right screen. Once finished with the editing, I had to drag the finished clip down and it was then edited and ready to use for further editing. We then finished the lesson by packing away the camera, packing away the tripod and then uploading the clips from my Sd card onto my pen drive.
So today i learnt different types of shots and what they mean. I now know how to set up and pack away a tripod on my own as i didnt pick it up last week. I know how to white balance and set up the camera correctly.
To improve next week i should pay attention some more as i lost focus on what i was meant to be doing as i was interested in the editing software and tried to do my own thing with the video as video editing is the part of media that interests me aswell as photo shopping which again is editing in general.

Owain Davis, Lesson 2 , 23/09/15
Banner Poster & Ghostly images-
We started off the lesson with photo shopping a person onto a background image. We was needed to make the person blurred to make them look ghostly onto the background. I found this easy as I pick up the skills easily as I'm interested in Photoshop so i am very confident with applying the effects done today.
Here was my first image where i was grasping the idea of doing the effect which turned out decent.
This wasn't the best image to have produced but it was my first time and was okay in my opinion. I don't like how i did a mistake and there is a white splodge of white near the ghostly images head as i cut the background out by accident as i was on the wrong layer whilst trying to crop. I know what i did wrong and I know how to improve the image so it wont happen again.
Then when i did my second image it turned out much better as i knew what i had to do and i was proud of the outcome of the image. For this i had to paste the background image onto layer 1 and then paste the human image onto layer 2. I then went onto layer 2 and used the quick selection tool and cropped out the white background and only selected the man. I then moved and altered the size of the image and moved it so it then looked like the photographer was taking a picture of the ghostly image. I then altered the color to black and white. After this i then edited the blur on the image by going to the 'filter' tab at the top and then going down to the blur option. I clicked that and then Gaussian blur and this was my outcome. I can easily do this effect again without struggling if i was to do it again.

I then created the 3rd image in tutorial which i followed the same procedure as before and i quickly threw it together.
We then photo shopped a banner that included loads of different steps. I found it easy to follow the steps but i got stuck along the way as my image mode was in grayscale but i managed to sort that out.
This is what my banner looks like.
In order to make this first of all i started the layer 1 with making the rectangle by using the rectangle tool. I then used the anchor point tool and clicked the middle of both sides of the rectangle. I then altered them to make the curved effect.
I then made layer 2 and held shift whilst using the rectangle tool in order to make the square. I then clicked the direct selection tool and then halved the square. Once i finished that I duplicated the layer so i could have two triangles to make the banner. I then had to flip the triangles horizontally and move them underneath the rectangle. I then changed the gradient color by clicking the triangles and then going through settings and changed the color to make the effect of the color fading halfway in the shape. I then made layer 3 and added text to the banner and changed the size and font of the text. After this i held shift and clicked on all the layers i had there and then i linked them together to be one image. I then made layer 4 and used the paint bucket tool and made the background orange and i then changed the settings of the gradient color so i could use the purple effect along the bottom. I was going to get started on adding a freaky image but didn't get enough time to edit it. I did this task independently and found it very easy to grasp.

Faye Jackson, Lesson 2, 21/09/15
Sound, Subversive adverts & Advertising.
We started the lesson by listening to some advert songs and trying to guess what advert they came from and we filled this in on a worksheet. We also learnt what Tempo, Key, Non diegetic, Diegetic, Major key and Minor key is.
Car Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eBAGKpf8p8
Tempo- Slow but builds up as the advert goes on.
Key- Loads of different notes used
Non diegetic- Used in this advert
Audience aimed at- Both genders, early adulthood to middle adulthood ages.
I think the advert used this music because the tone of the music is very action based and the music makes me think of a mission based background music used in films for effect. So in my opinion they could of used this music to make it look like this type of car gets to places fast, has functions that are efficient and can get the job done.
A make up advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWL5RocbFwE
Tempo- Fast and upbeat
Key- Loads of different notes used
Non diegetic sound- Used
Major Key- Used
Audience aimed at- Female, Adolescents & Early and middle adulthood.
I think the advert used this music to efficiently grab female attention as the music is very feminine based and in my opinion i think the reason they could link the music with make up is the link with the words and the advert. The words 'its now or never' is mentioned and it could make the women think its now or never to use this make up and it makes the product stand out.
Key- Same range of notes used
Non diegetic sounds- Used
Major key- Used.
Audience aimed at- Both genders, Adulthood ( Early, Middle & Late )
I think the advert used the background music as the tempo is fast which could link to the advert as there is a sale on and the sale could run out fast. So in my opinion I think they used it to encourage the audience to act fast if interested.
3 of my own adverts-
GoPro Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3PDXmYoF5U
Tempo- Fast and upbeat
Key- Different ranges used
Non diegetic sounds- Used
Major Key- Used
Audience aimed at- More male, but can be both. Adolescents & Early Adulthood.
I think the advert used this background music to set a good vibe to the product, to get more adolescents attention with the tempo used. It is very upbeat and more based on action and sport. I think they used the music to link to how the product is used for example; Sports/ Action.
Dorito Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJTr39UJlAs
Tempo- Slow but intense.
Key- Same range used
Non diegetic and Diegetic sounds- Used
Audience aimed at- Both genders, Adolescents
I think the advert used the background music to make their new product look more intense than the rest with the use of the intense music. I think they linked the advert with the music by using the intense music to make their product stand out and to make the porduct look entertaining to eat as the new product is based on a game.
Audi R8 Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0_GCuim9kY
Tempo- Slow
Key- Same used
Diegetic sounds- Used
No major or minor keys used.
Audience aimed at- Male, Sport car users, Adulthood.
I think the advert used the diegetic sounds to grab an audience that is more into cars/fast types of cars. The use of the sound of the engine instantly links to the advert as it is a car. There is no background music used. Only diegetic sound is used in this advert.
For the remainder of the lesson we then drafted our own adverts for adverts that advertise false products and making them more accurate.
First of all we researched about a certain false advertisement, I picked a skin care product.
We did a rough plan of what we was going to do on photoshop and what our image would look like.
We then put it together and then sketched it out on a bigger piece of paper and mine looked like this
I then started to photoshop my image and have edited it. I am pleased with the outcome of this.

Mark Epton, Lesson 1- 18/09/15
Camera diagram detailing important functions-
Today I have learnt the different features on a camera and different functions on the camera.
I have learnt what every letter and symbol means on the dial.
So today in the photography lesson we sat today and listened to Mark talk and introduce the course of photography he is going to be giving for the year and what is needed, what assignment's are going to be given out and just giving a general over look of everything needed to know about the course itself.
He also introduced himself and explained his experience of doing photography. He also shown us what he had produced over the years and then gave us some history behind photography for example when the first camera came out, when the first photograph was composed etc..
Our class then got separated into 4 groups and we was given 2 magazines. We then had to pick out 4 different pictures from the magazine and then re create the picture between us so that other groups had to try guess what picture we was re creating. I thought this was a good way for the groups to bond as a class as personally I don't know many people and I felt more comfortable talking to others in the group. After this we then presented our pictures and others had to guess what picture it was and then others presented theirs and we had to guess. We then learnt about all the different modes on a camera and what they do as I explained earlier. We learnt about the purpose of features being on the camera itself and then we finished up the lesson with blogging.

Marrisa Johnson, Lesson 1- 15/09/15
Video production brainstorm and ideas
Today we looked at both gender directors and found out some more information about films we watch and didn't know about who directed it.
I found out that some of the films I have watched are actually directed by a female persona and it really did show that any gender is capable of doing anything just as good as the other.
We then looked at a short film that was directed by a local director named Simon Ellis and then looked into the rule of 3rd/ frame of shot. I learnt that whilst shooting a film you must always line up the angle with the interception of the person depending on the shot type.
For example with the close up shot it would be more efficient if you lined up the graph on the camera with the persons eyes for the best angle and shooting effect.
We then looked at a camera and played around with it a little bit just to see how it works. I learnt how to white balance the camera by clicking menu twice, choosing the WB mode, and clicking the main button for the best effect depending on shot background.
We then connected the camera with the mic and headphones and went around college to experiment some different shot types. I did not have an SD card on this lesson so no proof is shown but I still went round and tried to grasp the concept of the different shot types and the frame of shot.
After this we then learnt how to set up a tripod the correct way and then disable it in the correct way without breaking or loosing parts like the plate.

Slogan's Introduction.
The whole lesson in general was based on advertising and different ways of advertising.
In task 2 we had to get into randomly selected groups and work together to come up with a way of adverting our product, in a location, that was aimed at a certain audience. Our group had to come up with ways of advertising a shampoo, in a bus stop that was target audience, the elderly.
1.
This picture grabs my attention as I like the way the camera has focused onto the rainy spider web and blurring out the background. Making the main priority of the image the rainy effect on the spider web and grass. The image in general gives of dark imagery and makes me think that maybe they're focusing on the rain on the
spider web/grass to attempt to maybe take our minds of the background which is blurred out. That could mean that they are trying to blur out the darkness in this image. The blurred out background could resemble the hidden creatures among the forest where the picture was taken.
2.

This image grabbed my attention as I liked the way that the girl statue which is the dull colour, grey, is brought out by the use of the colour red from the blood. It also stood out to me as the statue is crying blood. This makes me think of the phrase 'made of stone' which could really mean that even thought people recall to be made of stone they still feel pain and bleed just like the rest of us. That is why I found this image interesting and unique.
3. This image grabbed my attention as it fits in with the freaky theme and I like how the image starts of from the bottom being really dark and then as you continue to look up the picture strangely the abandoned rollercoaster has a splash of colour making this picture stand out. The sky also looks dark which gives of a dark vibe to the image. Also I find It strange how even though the image is meant to look abandoned, the plants and fence at the side look completely fresh and new whilst the rest of the image looks wrecked.
Slogan's Introduction.
Today in class, to start of with I filled in a worksheet that had slogans on and I had to connect the slogans with the brand/company who it belonged to on this worksheet below.
We created a mind map of everything we could relate with annotations of the elderly, what properties the elderly would be interested in and what we would need to take in mind to attract their attention.
We considered making the background of the advert bright so that it would draw them in. We took in mind that eye sight could be effected due to old age so we would make the writing on the bottle bold and clear so it is easy to read. We named the product Silver fox as the word 'Silver' has connotations of the color grey and when both words are combined's the imagery it creates is an attractive person with grey facial hair, including hair. We decided to have the slogan as something that rhymes so that it is catchy and is easy to get stuck in peoples heads. We also took into mind that we could alter the bottles shape so it can be easily grabbed and held by the elderly and can be easily accessible.
After we came up with a few different ideas we threw them all together and designed the advertisement that would be displayed in a bus stop and we drew an illustration of what it would look like. We then presented our ideas in groups in front of everyone and then listened to what others had come up with.
After this we did our own research tasks and chose 3 images that stand out in the freaky and unique theme and explained why it grabbed my attention and give reasonable explanations about the different effects and details on the pictures.

Freaky clone tool-
Today I learned how to use certain features using photoshop. I learnt how to increase an images size without changing the quality of the image. I learnt how to copy a certain feature and insert them onto the same image using layers and different tools.
For the image below I inserted the main human image onto layer 1 which i then had to increase the images size by holding Ctrl + T and i then could enlarge the picture by dragging corners out. I then made another layer that I could edit the original image on. For the insertion of the 3rd eye and eyebrow I used the clone stamp and I then right clicked on the start of what I wanted to clone which was his eye. I then went back onto layer 1 and right clicked where I wanted to place the eye and I carefully altered what specific image and shape I wanted the eye to be to make it more efficient.

For this image I inserted the owl image of google into layer 1 and I first of all altered the size by holding Ctrl + T which I then altered it. I then clicked the clone stamp and left clicked on the owls eye and selected the area I wanted to clone. I then went onto layer 2 and I could then right click to insert the eye and select where I wanted it.
I made a 3rd one which I couldn't upload as it was in the wrong format/software to upload onto here but for this image I inserted 2 different images and put them on 2 separate layers. I clicked onto the woman and clicked the quick selection tool and then I cropped around her lips and I then inserted the lips onto layer 1. I then achieved combining 2 different images together,
I attempted to make a 4th image by using different tools but it didn't work exactly to plan and i struggled to use the paint bucket tool, the cut tool to cut a specific part of the image out and move it else where and I didnt quite get the grasp of it. So i could next time improve by asking for help and saying that i didnt understand instead of giving up and exploring what else i could do on the photoshop software.
