Faye Jackson, Lesson 2, 21/09/15

Sound, Subversive adverts & Advertising.

We started the lesson by listening to some advert songs and trying to guess what advert they came from and we filled this in on a worksheet. We also learnt what Tempo, Key, Non diegetic, Diegetic, Major key and Minor key is.

                          Car Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eBAGKpf8p8
Tempo- Slow but builds up as the advert goes on.
Key- Loads of different notes used
Non diegetic- Used in this advert
Audience aimed at- Both genders, early adulthood to middle adulthood ages.
I think the advert used this music because the tone of the music is very action based and the music makes me think of a mission based background music used in films for effect. So in my opinion they could of used this music to make it look like this type of car gets to places fast, has functions that are efficient and can get the job done.

                            A make up advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWL5RocbFwE
Tempo- Fast and upbeat
Key- Loads of different notes used
Non diegetic sound- Used
Major Key- Used
Audience aimed at- Female, Adolescents & Early and middle adulthood.
I think the advert used this music to efficiently grab female attention as the music is very feminine based and in my opinion i think the reason they could link the music with make up is the link with the words and the advert. The words 'its now or never' is mentioned and it could make the women think its now or never to use this make up and it makes the product stand out.

A sofa advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GwJhrL6rpE
Tempo- Fast
Key- Same range of notes used
Non diegetic sounds- Used
Major key- Used.
Audience aimed at- Both genders, Adulthood ( Early, Middle & Late )
I think the advert used the background music as the tempo is fast which could link to the advert as there is a sale on and the sale could run out fast. So in my opinion I think they used it to encourage the audience to act fast if interested.

3 of my own adverts-

                                  GoPro Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3PDXmYoF5U
Tempo- Fast and upbeat
Key- Different ranges used
Non diegetic sounds- Used
Major Key- Used
Audience aimed at- More male, but can be both. Adolescents & Early Adulthood.
I think the advert used this background music to set a good vibe to the product, to get more adolescents attention with the tempo used. It is very upbeat and more based on action and sport. I think they used the music to link to how the product is used for example; Sports/ Action.

                                   Dorito Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJTr39UJlAs
Tempo- Slow but intense.
Key- Same range used
Non diegetic and Diegetic sounds- Used
Audience aimed at- Both genders, Adolescents
I think the advert used the background music to make their new product look more intense than the rest with the use of the intense music. I think they linked the advert with the music by using the intense music to make their product stand out and to make the porduct look entertaining to eat as the new product is based on a game.

                                  Audi R8 Advert- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0_GCuim9kY
Tempo- Slow
Key- Same used
Diegetic sounds- Used
No major or minor keys used.
Audience aimed at- Male, Sport car users, Adulthood.
I think the advert used the diegetic sounds to grab an audience that is more into cars/fast types of cars. The use of the sound of the engine instantly links to the advert as it is a car. There is no background music used. Only diegetic sound is used in this advert.

For the remainder of the lesson we then drafted our own adverts for adverts that advertise false products and making them more accurate.
First of all we researched about a certain false advertisement, I picked a skin care product.
We did a rough plan of what we was going to do on photoshop and what our image would look like.

We then put it together and then sketched it out on a bigger piece of paper and mine looked like this

I then started to photoshop my image and have edited it. I am pleased with the outcome of this.
